About TEO Counselling

TEO Counselling — Virtual Therapy for Adults & Couples Across Six Provinces

A virtual counselling practice serving adults and couples in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland & Labrador. Everything we do is guided by one core belief: mental health care is a fundamental human right.

TEO Counselling, at a glance. TEO Counselling Services Inc. is an online-only counselling and psychotherapy practice founded by Mohamad Shabib and based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, serving adults and couples in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland & Labrador. Its clinicians are Mohamad Shabib, MACP, CCC — a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the CCPA — who works in English and Arabic; Alison Shaji, MA Clinical Psychology, RCC (BCACC), who works in English, Hindi and Malayalam with clients in British Columbia; and Rola Shbib, BSW (Hons), RSW (Ontario), who works in English. The practice works with trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, couples and relationship issues, addictions, attachment, anger, burnout, sleep, self-esteem, life transitions, personality disorders, therapy for men and first responders. Individual sessions are $150 and couples sessions are $175, each 60 minutes, seven days a week from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm Pacific time. No provincial health plan covers counselling in private practice; reimbursement depends on the designation an extended health plan covers (CCC, RCC or RSW), and the first step is a free 15-minute consultation.

Our mission

People who need therapy still go without it — because of cost, distance, long waitlists, or not knowing where to start. TEO was founded to change that. We remove barriers wherever we can: virtual sessions so geography isn't a barrier, a small number of reduced-fee spots so cost is less of a barrier, and a free consultation so uncertainty isn't a barrier.

We also recognize that cultural fit matters deeply in therapy — especially for trauma. That's why we offer therapy in English, Arabic, Hindi, and Malayalam, and bring lived experience with diverse communities into our clinical work.

Our approach is evidence-based and tailored to you. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. We draw on EMDR, IFS, the Gottman Method, and CBT — choosing and combining what your situation actually calls for.

Virtual across six provinces

Online sessions on Jane, with Zoom or Google Meet as a backup. No commute, no waiting room — therapy that fits your life.

Bilingual: English & Arabic

Clinical therapy in Arabic — sessions can run in Arabic or English, and you can move between them mid-sentence.

Free initial consultation

No commitment. We talk, we listen, and we figure out together if we're the right fit for you.

Reduced-fee spots

A small number of reduced-fee spots are held — if cost is a barrier, mention it during the consultation.

Insurance receipts and direct billing

Reimbursement depends on the designation your plan covers — Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or Registered Social Worker (RSW). Direct billing is available with Mohamad and Alison for some plans; see the direct billing page.

Where we work

Anywhere in six provinces, in four languages, seven days a week.

Four languages

Sessions run in English or Arabic with Mohamad, and in English with Rola. Alison offers sessions in English, Hindi, or Malayalam for clients in British Columbia.

Hours on your clock

We work seven days a week, 12:00pm–9:00pm Pacific — which puts evening availability in every province we serve. In Ontario that's 3:00pm to midnight; in Newfoundland, 4:30pm–1:30am. The full local-time table for each province is on the fees page.

Mohamad Shabib

Mohamad Shabib

MACP, CCC, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), CRPO — Ontario · Founder

Mohamad's path to counselling came through crisis response, First Nations community mental health, refugee support, and concurrent trauma and addictions work. His depth of real-world clinical experience — combined with advanced EMDR training and training in IFS and the Gottman Method — shapes a practice that is both rigorous and deeply human.

How the practice works

Three steps from first click to first session — no referral, no intake fee, no commitment.

1

Book the free consultation

Every enquiry starts in the same place: a free 15-minute consultation, booked through Mohamad's calendar. No referral needed. If cost is a concern, this is also the moment to ask about our limited reduced-fee spots.

2

Sort out the right fit

The consultation is where we match you to the right clinician. Mohamad sees clients in all six provinces, in English or Arabic. Alison sees clients in British Columbia, in English, Hindi, or Malayalam. Rola sees clients across the provinces TEO serves, in English. If a colleague is the better fit for what you bring, that's who you'll work with.

3

Start sessions on Jane

Sessions run as video calls on Jane, with Zoom or Google Meet as a backup. You pay per session by Interac e-Transfer or credit card, and an insurance-ready receipt follows every session.

Virtual-only in practice: there is no office to travel to, anywhere. What you need is a private spot and a stable internet connection. If privacy at home is hard to come by, raise it at the consultation so you and your clinician can plan around it together.

If you want to check what our designations mean before you book, how counselling is regulated in Canada explains them plainly, and our resources page gathers free tools and crisis lines for every province we serve.

What we will not do

An honest practice should be clear about its limits. Here are ours.

We won't sell you a package

No session bundles, no minimum commitments, no intake or assessment fees. You pay per session, and you can stop whenever you choose.

We won't surprise you on billing

Direct billing is available with Mohamad and Alison for Pacific Blue Cross, CVAP and plans on the TELUS eClaims network (Canada Life and Manulife among them). Where your plan is not one we can bill, you pay for each session and receive an insurance-ready receipt to submit yourself. And to be plain about coverage: no provincial health plan (MSP, OHIP, or any other) covers counselling in private practice. Whether an extended health plan reimburses it depends on the designation your plan covers.

We won't promise you an outcome

No one can say in advance what therapy will do for you, and we won't pretend to. What we can do is explain the approach we'd take, why we'd take it, and review with you — honestly — whether it's working.

We won't stand in for crisis care

Sessions here are booked ahead of time — this is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For urgent support, call or text 9-8-8 (Canada, 24/7), call Kids Help Phone (for young people) at 1-800-668-6868 (or text CONNECT to 686868), or call Hope for Wellness at 1-855-242-3310.

Confidentiality, plainly

What you share in session stays between you and your clinician, with four exceptions — and only four:

  • 1.A child needs protection.
  • 2.A mandatory report of sexual abuse by a regulated health professional.
  • 3.A serious and imminent risk of harm.
  • 4.A court order or subpoena.

Your clinician walks through these limits in the first session, before anything sensitive is discussed — so you know exactly where the line sits before you decide what to say. For how your information is handled outside of session, read our privacy policy.
